Dear Colleagues,
It’s my great pleasure to welcome you to the United Nations Development Programme. Whether you are joining UNDP for the first time or have served with us before we are pleased to have you as part of our team of dedicated staff on the ground in 177 countries and territories and in regional and global headquarters. Your service with UNDP contributes to our mission of empowering lives and building resilient nations. To us this is the essence of development.
Our partnerships with people at all levels of societies help build nations which can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth which improves the quality of life for everyone. Working at UNDP you become part of our global development network, joining teams with expertise in our work, building Democratic Governance, reducing poverty, preventing and recovering from crisis , creating environmental sustainability and energy solutions, and helping achieve Millennium Development Goal 6 on HIV/AIDS , TB and Malaria.
In the coming days and weeks you will meet new colleagues, set goals for your work and learn key information about your duty station, and about UNDP as a whole. Your orientation to UNDP is supported by what we are calling our Onboarding website, because you are coming on board, and this is an important resource and it’s designed to guide you to what you need to know to do well in your new position. So I encourage you to explore the Onboarding site and make full use of all the materials which are available there.
UNDP is always a fascinating place in which to work, and I hope that your experience with us will be rewarding, challenging, and meaningful for you. We must always be mindful too that as UN Staff it is our responsibility to uphold the Organization’s high standards of ethics, professionalism, and accountability. Those we exist to serve have every right to expect all that of us.
Your dedication and commitment are very important to UNDP as we strive to meet the challenges which lie ahead. I look forward to our journey together.
Thank you for coming on board, and a very warm welcome to UNDP.
